Certificate in Facilitation Skills

In response to increasing interest from our existing graduates for further personal and professional development, we are now launching registrations for our Certificate of Facilitation Skills program. This is open to you, as a previously accredited facilitator at Level 1.
We often hear experienced facilitators say there can be a low correlation between the number of meetings they have attended (or led) and their personal effectiveness as a facilitator, or a group member. Sometimes, no matter how many ‘facilitator hours’ we have, we can find ourself in all-too-familiar territory, whether that is frustration with a group going ‘off topic’ or intimidating relational dynamics such as pushback, power play or group conflict.

The AoF Certificate in Facilitation Skills provides an opportunity to reflect, experiment and develop strategies to handle next-level challenges when they arise, in a live group setting, with feedback and insights from other professionals. We provide a holistic, stretching and supportive environment in which to examine how personal style, emotional baggage, organisational culture, contractual arrangements and other contextual and systemic factors have impact, allowing participants to review and refresh their facilitation skills and style.

While the Certificate is well grounded in research and theory, we recognise that the greatest resource that you bring to your facilitation practice is yourself, who you are and how you are. In this five day course, learning and assessment methods build on the experiential, reflection and participatory methods familiar to those having achieved Level 1 accreditation via the Foundations or Practitioner Accreditation routes.

Join us for our Facilitation Certificate programme starting in January 2025. The course is appropriate for facilitators whose role substantially involves leading groups and teams, and who are committed to both individual and team development. Prior Level 1 Accreditation is a prerequisite for attending .

About the programme:

The Certificate Programme comprises two modules and an accreditation day – 5 contact days in total. Attendance on both modules, peer group meetings, supervision and self-study are required for accreditation at Level 2.

The Organisational Impact Module is a short course that extends your existing facilitator style and skills ‘outwards’ — offering a range of theoretical and practical approaches to underpin effective Organisational Development (OD). Your facilitation range and impact will extend to confident and sensitive facilitation of complex work.

The Personal Presence Module is a short course that extends your awareness ‘inwards’ — offering a range of opportunities to examine personal patterns and discard emotional ‘baggage’. We consider how you can practically hone your facilitation skills and consciously direct your energy and attention to use your ‘self as instrument’.

Self and Peer Assessment & Accreditation includes a written, detailed self-assessment against the FACETS® competencies, obtained peer feedback and gathered supporting evidence. The accreditation day will consolidate your learning into a clear statement of accreditation. You will be expected to have read core texts from our reading list and to have received one-to-one supervision (minimum 3 hours, self-funded).

Dates: January 20th and 21st, February 24th and 25th, Accreditation on March 31st.

Location: Highfield Park, Hook, Hampshire (in person)
